About Me

My background

Born and raised in a small village northwest of Chicago, I have been a Hoosier since 1987. I teach 7th grade English and also write/edit on a freelance basis. I am currently working on my second middle grade fiction novel, Flight Risk.

My writing roots

A broadcast journalist by trade, I first began writing radio news stories for WBAT in Marion , Ind. I enjoyed a four-year stint in radio during which I served as a news anchor and morning show co-host in Lafayette, Ind. I then publicized sports and fitness books for Human Kinetics in Urbana, IL. Upon returning to Indiana, I wrote news releases and publicized events for the Purdue News Service for a decade.

My style

"Write what you know" is sage advice. My novels feature 12-year-old boys who grapple with contemporary problems to which middle school and junior high students can relate. As a junior high English teacher and mother of three boys (and a male dog), it's important that the voice of my books be authentic.
